Sun Skull

Sun Skull This skull statue that predates the European's arrival in the new world by 600 years was used during the Sun Rituals when humans were sacrificed to the gods to insure the return of the sun.

Sacrifices were performed with a ritual knife by the Priest of the City - normally atop a pyramid. It is said that the blood of the victim was saved and used for ritualistic purposes. Some myths declare that the ritual first took place upon the onset of a Solar Eclipse when panic overtook the city.
